Influenced by my upbringing in a household shaped by reserved Asian and African parents, the concept of love was something I could only comprehend through the lens of romantic comedies—idealized and distant. The portrayal of love in these films often felt foreign and kitschy, highlighting the contrast between the simplicity of “I love you” and the deeper, more nuanced emotions I experienced. Through this collection, I focused on capturing warmth, comfort, and authenticity of feelings, embracing the certainty of love while acknowledging its complexity.
Sometimes I get so overwhelmed by the feelings of love
How to allow love into the heart?
How to learn to trust and coexist?
I sometimes feel like I’m wrapped in a warm hug
But the hug is unfamiliar
I want to emerge myself in the love & warmth
But I feel cold & scared
I want to learn how to love
